About Course

This foundational course in PhD by Publication is intended to explore three main areas as stated hereunder.  It is a 30 credit units (30 ECTS) work load. Candidate is expected to follow each step accordingly as course Adviser reviews each submitted published portfolio. (NB: It’s expected of the candidate to build on already published book, journal or thesis as submitted prior to admission.)

1. Research Recognition and Portfolio Review (10 ECTS)
Evaluation of existing published works for relevance, coherence, and alignment with program objectives. Critical appraisal and reflection on the impact of prior contributions. Structuring the portfolio framework.

2. Synthesis and Research Enhancement Workshops (10 ECTS)
Developing the integrative narrative: themes, objectives, and theoretical contributions. Workshops on advanced research methodologies specific to health
promotion and patient care. Training in systematic synthesis and gap identification.

3. New Research Initiatives (10 ECTS)
Identification of areas needing additional publication to strengthen the portfolio.
Preparing and submitting the first new manuscript during the program.

Course Content

Research Recognition and Portfolio Review (10 ECTS)
As part of the requirements for your Ph.D. program at DFICU Universities, you are expected to participate in the Research Recognition and Portfolio Review process. This stage is designed to evaluate your academic contributions and ensure your research aligns with the university’s high standards of excellence and global relevance. The following expectations outline what is required of you at this stage: Purpose and Objectives: Recognition of Scholarly Contributions: Showcase the originality, innovation, and impact of your research within your academic field. The quality of your work should meet global academic standards and make a meaningful contribution to knowledge.

Synthesis and Research Enhancement Workshops (10 ECTS)
As part of your Ph.D. journey at DFICU Universities, this stage of the project requires you to engage in Synthesis and Research Enhancement Workshops, which are designed to sharpen your research skills and ensure the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge in your dissertation. The following expectations must guide you: Purpose and Objectives: Synthesize Knowledge: You are expected to analyze, connect, and integrate concepts from various disciplines relevant to your research topic. This will ensure that your dissertation provides a holistic and innovative perspective

New Research Initiatives (10 ECTS)
As part of Stage Three of the Foundations and Portfolio Preparation in your Ph.D. program at DFICU Universities, you are required to conceptualize and develop New Research Initiatives. This stage focuses on driving innovation and advancing your academic field by proposing original ideas or projects that expand the boundaries of existing knowledge (existing publication). Below are the objectives and expectations for this critical phase: Purpose and Objectives: Encourage Originality: Develop new research ideas that address unanswered questions, solve real-world problems, or offer innovative solutions to existing challenges within your field (in line with your chosen dissertation topic).

Expectations from the Candidate
STAGE 1: Research Recognition and Portfolio Review Portfolio Preparation: Compile and present a comprehensive portfolio that includes: A summary of your research work. Published journal articles, conference papers, or any other academic publications. Details of academic presentations or workshops you have participated in. Awards, recognitions, or grants received related to your research. STAGE 2: Synthesis and Research Enhancement Workshops Active Participation: Attend all scheduled workshops (if any) or create one, contribute actively to discussions, and complete any assigned tasks or practical exercises STAGE 3:New Research Initiatives Identify key areas within your research domain that require further exploration. Develop a detailed proposal for your initiative, including objectives, methodology, potential impact, and resource requirements.
