ECO 392 – RESEARCH METHODS IN ECONOMICS 11 – 3 credits
About Course
Introduction to Research Methods in Economics
Research methods in economics encompass a diverse array of techniques and approaches aimed at systematically investigating economic phenomena, analyzing data, and drawing meaningful conclusions. These methods serve as the foundation for empirical research in economics, guiding economists in exploring questions related to allocation of resources, market behavior, policy analysis, and more.
Understanding research methods in economics is crucial for both scholars and practitioners alike. Economists utilize various methodologies to collect, analyze, and interpret data, enabling them to develop insights into complex economic issues and inform decision-making processes at individual, organizational, and governmental levels.
This introductory course provides students with a comprehensive overview of key research methods commonly employed in economics. Through theoretical explanations, practical examples, and hands-on exercises, students will gain proficiency in designing research studies, selecting appropriate methodologies, and critically evaluating economic research. By the end of this course, students will possess the skills necessary to conduct rigorous empirical research and contribute meaningfully to the field of economics.
What Will You Learn?
- By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- • Understand the principles and techniques of empirical research in economics.
- • Learn how to formulate research questions and hypotheses in economics.
- • Acquire skills in collecting, organizing, and analyzing economic data.
- • Develop proficiency in using statistical and econometric methods to test economic theories.
- • Apply research methods to conduct independent research projects in economics.
